8 tips to build sharp African musicians for the world to consume

According to old Wikipedia files; the global music industry generates about $40 billion. $12 billion of that 40 is enjoyed by United States GDP. I’m sure a
huge chunk of this $12 billion comes from exports. These exports could be from online sales, radio/film royalties and shipping of hard copies. The revenue
mediums are quiet vast this days.

Japan is second to the USA.

New records I’m told; stand at $33 billion; globally. I trust with these new figures; USA and Japan’s ratios haven’t changed much; if not improved. Well I
rarely care much of these stats. Ideas make money; which is what matters most.

Africa

Well I couldn’t find any stats specific to Africa as a whole. I know South African music industry contributes over R800 m to the SA GDP. It’s so little
compared to what USA and Japan make.

Understanding the economics of ebooks in South Africa

The Chrystal ball stashed in your grandma’s bedroom, brush it a bit with your right hand, then it will tell you that among Oprah’s favourite things for 2013 will be this book: ‘Forget The Business Plan Use This Short Model’, which I published this year.

I heard a rumour that traditional publishers take something to a year before they publish a book if not more (I’m not sure), rumours are seldom detailed.

Anyway, I went the self publishing route because I’m almost a born free (I missed it by a few great notches), this technology makes us impatient. It took Amazon about 12 hours each to review and publish my book on paperback and on Kindle (Amazon’s popular ebook reader).

South Africa and the rest of the African continent are slow players in the ebook industry. This maybe due to that we are a developing continent, internet infiltration is low (not for long) and it is beyond the majority’s affording-base.
